Škoda Titan Desert Almería 2024 route announced
23 de May de 2024The Provincial Palace of the Diputación de Almería has hosted the official presentation of the Škoda Titan Desert Almería. A race that is already in its fifth edition and continues to include sporting developments and participation.
The event was attended by representatives of all institutions directly involved in the organization of the test. Javier Aureliano García Molina, president of the Diputación de Almería; María del Mar Vázquez, mayoress of Almería and Aránzazu Martín, delegate of the Andalusian Government in Almería, as well as Jesús García, CEO of the Titan World Series, and Manuel Tajada, sports director of the Titan World Series, took part in the presentation.
The winner of four stages in the Tour de France and current ambassador of the Titan World Series, Luis León Sánchez, was also present.
The event was used to announce the route of the race: four stages that will be disputed between the 5th and the 8th of October, as well as to present the novelties of the race and its characteristics.
Each of the days will be marked by a different landscape and a different challenge: a first stage in Cabo de Gata, a second in the Tabernas desert, a third in which the Velefique pass will be climbed and a last one in which, as usual, the Legión Álvarez de Sotomayor base will be crossed.
A VERY SPECIAL EDITION
About this excellent mix of landscapes and challenges has spoken Javier Aureliano García Molina: “The Škoda Titan Desert Almería allows us to show the many benefits of a province that, even for those who know it so well, still continues to surprise us. When we see the images of the race and the spectacular scenery through which the cyclists ride, we still marvel at the treasures of the province of Almeria”.
The delegate of the Andalusian Government, Aránzazu Martín, explained that “the Škoda Titan Desert Almeria Titan has left throughout its various editions a significant economic impact on the province”. “And we are clear that the combination of tourism-sport works and more in a land with an enviable climate and so many possibilities as is Almeria,” he added.
The mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, has valued that “the celebration of the Škoda Titan Desert Almería proves that the capital is an ideal destination for holding major sporting events for its climate, its landscapes, modern hotels, network of sports facilities, gastronomy and culture. But above all for something that is even more important: for the people of Almeria.
A GROWING RACE
Jesús García has put in value that the Škoda Titan Desert Almeria continues to grow and innovate year after year: “We are already in our fifth edition and it seems incredible that continue to emerge new ways to improve and grow the race. This year, in addition to everything we always offer to the participants: the territory, the experience, the challenge… we will give them a unique opportunity: to ride with Peter Sagan, one of the great idols of world cycling”.
Manuel Tajada has emphasized one of the great sporting novelties of the edition: the bonuses for finishing. Thus, in each of the stages, the first rider to reach the finish line will be awarded 5“ in the GC, 3” for the second and 1” for the third. “This is something we are incorporating this year in all our races. The idea is to generate more differences between the favorites and thus increase the spectacle.”
One of the main contenders who will have to do the math with the calculator for the bonus timing is Luis León Sánchez. The cyclist from Murcia, recent winner of the Škoda Titan Desert Morocco repeats in Almería in 2024: “I already knew this race last year and the truth is that the experience was incredible: the landscape, the people, the experience. It was to face a territory that I know well, but in a totally new way. I can’t wait to come back.
