What does it mean to be a Titan? It is easy to separate Titans from non-Titans as if it were a dichotomy: those who have finished a Titan World Series race and those who have not. But if there is one thing that has characterised the Titan universe, it is that it has always sought to be much more than the sum of the kilometres that make up its races.

“There is something here that transcends the physical and the personal. It is almost spiritual. What unites all of us Titans, or aspiring Titans, is daring to take the step of starting a race like this. The one speaking is Alejandra ‘Ale’ Lizana, bib number 219 of this Škoda Titan Desert Almeria.

This will be her third participation in the Titan World Series. “In 2022 I made my first attempt in Morocco,” says the Chilean who lives in the United States. “I felt the inexperience weighed on me. It was a shock to realise that the race was so different from what I had expected. But if there’s one thing I am, it’s stubborn and persevering. Had there been a race two days later, I would have signed up without hesitation”.

And it was not two days, but a year later that she was able to try again: “I didn’t make it. I crashed because of a motorbike coming in the opposite direction. I still went on and the next day I took the start, but in terrible circumstances. I dropped 20 kilometres from the finish line. They had to pull me out because I wouldn’t stop pedalling by myself”.

In 2023 he will do the three Titan World Series races. The one that has just finished in Almería and NEOM Titan Desert Saudi Arabia included. The goal? To continue training for the Škoda Titan Desert Morocco 2024: “They are milestones that will help me morally, but above all physical and mental training”.

Perseverance, stubbornness, sacrifice, effort and being forced to get off a bike because you won’t stop pedalling unless you are forced to. What is a Titan if not that? The will to reach a goal whatever the cost. “This is a beautiful race, which promotes a unique culture and values”, adds ‘Ale’, bib number 219 and a Titan in her own right.
