Cannondale Vas Arabay cannibalises the Škoda Titan Desert Almeria 2023
10 de October de 2023Few exhibitions like this one can be remembered in the Titan World Series. A team that has won the men’s and women’s GCs, as well as three of the four stages in the men’s GC and full in the women’s GC. That’s the Cannondale Vas Arabay’s haul in this Škoda Titan Desert Almería.
The spearhead of this overwhelming domination has been Tessa Kortekaas. Škoda Titan Desert Morocco winner this year, she has added her second triumph in two appearances in Titan World Series races.
The Lanzarote-based Dutchwoman started as main contender, but perhaps not with this dominance. Four out of four wins in Almeria, in addition to the four she already won in the Škoda Titan Desert Morocco. Eight victories in ten stages for a rider who is already a legend in these two races.
The domination did not even diminish on this last day in the ‘Legion Stage. Spirit of March’. Ariadna Ródenas, second in the GC, tried at the start, so Kortekaas could not let up or relax. The adventure of the brave cyclist from Elche did not last long. At the EH2, at the Álvarez de Sotomayor military base, the leader was already ahead.
That’s how she reached the finish line. Only Pilar Fernández, third in the GC in the end, was able to keep up with Kortekaas’ pace. Nobody knows yet how to tackle this force of nature that only knows how to do one thing: win by crushing
HERRERO, AT THIRD ATTEMPT
At the front of the race, Miguel Muñoz came in first place to take his second win in this year’s edition. He did it, however, hand in hand with his teammate and winner of this Škoda Titan Desert Almeria, Fran Herrero.
The Segovian, one of the strong men in the last two years in the Titan World Series, was finally able to close his victory in the GC.
After the last two editions in Morocco, in which he came very close to winning, the victory is a very good taste for Herrero, who has been the leader since the first day.
To the victory in that first stage of the Cannondale rider Vas Arabay, we have to add the two wins achieved by his team-mate Miguel Muñoz. Only Pablo Guerrero, winner of the Škoda We Love Cyling stage, prevented the Connecticut riders from taking the poker of stages.
Third in the GC was one of the most attractive names of this edition, the former Astana rider Luis León Sánchez. A more than worthy debut for the rider from Murcia.
