How different it is to do a race representing your own region. And if on top of that you are being one of the names of the edition even more.

Esther Maqueda is currently the second classified in the female GC of this Škoda Titan Desert Almería. A name that has surprised many people, although in 2023 and debuted in the race and made very good results in the mixed duo category.

Maqueda’s pressence is the result of the new Ambassador program of the Junta de Andalucía, which finances a registration to the best classified in the BTT Cup in Andalucía.

“To be able to participate representing your region is something very nice and very special. It is a recognition that any cyclist of the territory likes very much. In the end you are representing your people and that is wonderful,” explains this rider from Seville.

Maqueda is taking the name of Andalusia to the top, something that she herself did not expect: “If in the end I finish on the podium, it is a plus, of course. But the important thing is that I don’t crash and continue to enjoy myself. That’s the beauty of these races: the experience and the joy we take with us”.
